Today’s Family First Site looks at a person who made a major impact on the world, as we know it today. Without this person’s work, medical treatment would be different, power production would be different, and someone else would have been the first person to win two Nobel prizes. Oh, yes, this was all accomplished before the rise of the women’s liberation movement, but that didn’t impede her progress.

The site is called Marie Curie and the Science of Radioactivity. At this site, sponsored by the American Institute of Physics, you can learn about the accomplishments of this marvelously talented woman. Among her accomplishments were the discovery of polonium and radium, identification and isolation of radioactive elements, and the winning of two Nobel Prizes. At this site you can read and understand not only how important the work of Marie and her husband Pierre were, but also how ground breaking. So many of today’s scientific breakthroughs can be traced both directly and indirectly to their work.
So enjoy your visit to this entertaining and educational site. It will be a wonderful experience. Having worked in the medical imaging industry for over 20 years, it was interesting to see how the discovery of radiation has benefited all of us in so many different ways.
